Bad Homburg and Friedrichsdorf

On Monday, September 30th we decided to take a bus and go to Bad Homburg for the day. We walked to the bus stop and looked at the schedule--it said that a bus for Bad Homburg was coming in three minutes. We waited and waited and waited........and then a lady came by and gave us a kind of funny look--she walked past and then stopped and came back. She told us that the bus didn't stop at that place anymore--she then turned the schedule around and sure enough it said that the bus didn't stop there anymore and that we needed to go to the train station to catch the nearest bus. So we went to the train station and took the train to Bad Homburg. It took only 10 minutes to get there, whereas the bus would have taken almost a hour. So much for the bus.

This is the palace in Bad Homburg.
The next pictures are of the gardens of the palace and of course we are in some of the pictures.

We thought these pinecones were amazing. We have never seen white pinecones before.

This little apple tree came about to our waist--amazing that there are so many apples on it.
This is in what they call their citrus grove. All of the trees are in pots so that they can take them into the greenhouses for the winter--of course, it is too cold for citrus trees to grow and produce here in Germany. There were lemon trees and orange trees with lots of fruit on them.

In the gardens there is a lake that we walked around. It was beautiful--but it looked muddy because it had been raining hard for several days. It just cleared up that morning so that we could go and enjoy the day.

There is a huge church across the street from the palace. The next few pictures are of the church.

We went into city center and this is part of the old wall that surrounds the old city. The next pictures are of the old city.

We went into the shopping area and there was a street carnival going on. There were hundreds of vendors on both sides of the street. The shopping area is probably a mile long or more. We walked all along it twice, stopped and ate a bratwurst--which was very good. Naturally, Don had to buy popcorn.

The next few pictures were taken in Friedrichsdorf while we were taking one of our walks. This one is up on the top of the mountain (if you can call it that) in a forest.

This is a very strange tree--it is very sharp to touch it, but beautiful to look at.

There are many Autumn flowers that we enjoy every day. We took this picture especially for our daughter, Cynthia, because she loves sunflowers.

You can take the boy out of the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the boy!
